JOKOWI’S transition team began working three weeks ago, after the quick count results by pollsters predicted that the Jakarta governor would win the election. They translated the vision, mission, and campaign promises of the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla ticket into policy proposals for the upcoming administration. A fi veyear program called the National Middle-Term Development Plan has been written, as well as a year-long Government Working Plan. One program on education is called ‘Smart Indonesia]. Under the Yudhoyono administration’s plan, compulsory schooling as of 2019 is to be nine years long. Jokowi wants this to be 12 years. It is the team’s job to work this policy into the 2015 State Budget. According to Jokowi, the backbone of his transition team are members of the Team of 11, which helped him win the election. The Team of 11 was formed by Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Chairperson, Megawati Soekarnoputri at the end of 2013.
